New Hampshire From the First Tooth is an initiative supported for two years by the DentaQuest Foundation. The From the First Tooth initiative aims to improve the oral health of New Hampshire’s children from the eruption of the child’s first tooth through age 5 years with a focus on children up through age 36 months that are covered by a Medicaid dental benefit. Oral health risk assessment and fluoride varnish application, are provided by primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants in their medical office setting as part of well child care visits. Referrals are made to dentists for the establishment of a dental home. Since 2015, From the First Tooth has trained over 20 medical practices throughout the state.
