Connecticut

The fluoride varnish program in Connecticut is managed by the Connecticut Dental Health Partnership (CTDHP), in conjunction from with From with the First Tooth.  CTDHP’s fluoride varnish program is called the Access to Baby Care (ABC) Program.

CTDHP is the dental plan for HUSKY Health, the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Connecticut.

Oral health assessment and preventive services, including education and fluoride varnish application, are provided by primary care physicians or their PA, NP, nurse, or medical assistant staff in their office setting, typically as part of well child care visits. Referrals are made to dentists for the establishment of a dental home.

Medical providers can find more information on the CHDHP website.

Prior to September 1, 2018, Connecticut From the First Tooth was an initiative supported for three years by the DentaQuest Foundation and for two years by the Connecticut Health Foundation.  Between 2012 and 2018, From the First Tooth trained nearly 100 medical practices throughout the state.
