The Evidence

There are two primary dental diseases impacting pregnant women: tooth decay and periodontal disease.  Both are preventable and yet many women suffer from these bacterial infections.

Research shows that children who are exposed to tooth decay causing bacteria early in life are more likely to have lifelong dental problems.  Therefore, women should work to decrease bacterial levels in their mouths by:

  • Caring for their teeth at home each day (brushing and flossing)Pregnant woman with Toothbrush
  • Getting dental care
