Massachusetts From the First Tooth is an initiative supported for three years by the DentaQuest Foundation. The From the First Tooth initiative aims to improve the oral health of Massachusetts children from the eruption of the child’s first tooth through age 21.
Oral health assessment and preventive services, including education and fluoride varnish application, are provided by primary care physicians in their office setting, typically as part of well child care visits. Referrals are made to dentists for the establishment of a dental home. Since 2012, From the First Tooth has trained over 130 medical practices throughout the state. Trainings continue to be provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Medicaid program (MassHealth) through its administrative service provider, DentaQuest.
